📖 Today’s Reading: Proverbs 28–29, Psalm 60, Romans 16

📅 June 4, 2025

✨ Scripture Focus:
“When there is moral rot within a nation, its government topples easily. But wise and knowledgeable leaders bring stability.”
—Proverbs 28:2 (NLT)
“You have rejected us, O God, and broken our defenses. You have been angry with us; now restore us to your favor.”
—Psalm 60:1 (NLT)
📝 Devotional: When Wisdom is Rejected
There’s a painful truth in Proverbs 28 and 29: a nation crumbles when righteousness is lost. These chapters paint a vivid picture of what happens when the wicked rule, when the poor are oppressed, when people ignore instruction, and when justice is twisted. They speak straight to the heart of leadership and character—not just for kings and governments, but for families, churches, and communities.
Then Psalm 60 echoes in like a cry from the battlefield: “God, You’ve rejected us… we are broken.” It’s not just personal defeat—it’s national desperation. Why? Because when wisdom is rejected, ruin follows. David, a warrior and king, acknowledges that only God can restore what’s broken.
And in Romans 16, Paul reminds us that God is the One who strengthens us and establishes us through the Gospel. Even in the chaos of life or culture, God has not lost control. He is still drawing people to Himself, building up the body, and calling for obedience to the faith.
💡 Lesson for Me
It’s not enough to just read wise sayings or know what is right. I must apply wisdom—God’s wisdom—to every area of my life: my thoughts, my choices, my leadership, my influence. And when I see chaos, I can be honest like David and cry out for restoration—but also stand firm like Paul, trusting in the strength and promises of God.
🔍 Application Questions
  • Where in my life have I been ignoring God’s wisdom?
  • Am I praying for leaders—both in the world and in my home—to walk in righteousness?
  • When I see “defeat” or “brokenness,” do I respond with humility and repentance like David?
  • How can I be a stabilizing presence—full of God’s wisdom—in a shaky world?
🙏 Prayer
Lord, I see the effects of foolishness and sin around me. Help me not to be part of the problem, but to walk in Your wisdom daily. Strengthen me to live righteously in my home, my church, and my community. Raise up wise leaders. Restore what is broken, Lord, and help me to trust in Your power to save. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Today’s Reading:
Proverbs 28–29, Psalm 60, Romans 16

Scripture Focus

“Oh, please help us against our enemies, for all human help is useless. With God’s help we will do mighty things, for he will trample down our foes.”
— Psalm 60:11–12 (NLT)

Reflection

Proverbs 28 and 29 are filled with contrasts between the righteous and the wicked, wisdom and foolishness, self-control and rebellion. Again and again, Solomon reminds us that righteousness brings stability, while sin brings confusion and ruin. Wise leadership blesses people. Foolish leadership harms them. Those who receive correction grow in wisdom, while those who reject it suffer the consequences.

At the heart of these chapters is a simple truth: life works best when God is honored and His wisdom is followed.

Psalm 60 shows David facing a situation that was bigger than his own strength. Israel was struggling, enemies surrounded them, and human solutions were not enough. David recognized what we often forget: human help is limited. No person, government, plan, or resource can ultimately provide what only God can provide.

That is why David cried out:

“Oh, please help us against our enemies, for all human help is useless.”

What an honest confession. How often do we exhaust ourselves looking for answers, trying harder, worrying more, or leaning on human wisdom before seeking the Lord?

Then David turns his eyes back to God:

“With God’s help we will do mighty things.”

Romans 16 ends with a similar reminder. Paul points believers to the God who is able to strengthen and establish them through the Gospel. The same God who gave David victory is the God who strengthens us today.

Whether we are facing family struggles, financial burdens, health concerns, ministry challenges, or spiritual battles, our hope is not found in human strength. Our confidence rests in the Lord. When we reach the end of our ability, we discover that God’s power has never been limited.

Lesson for Me

When life feels unstable, I must resist the temptation to place my trust in people, circumstances, or my own understanding. True stability comes from walking in God’s wisdom and depending on His strength.

Application Questions

* Where am I relying on human help more than God’s help?
* Have I been seeking God’s wisdom before making decisions?
* Is there an area of my life where I need to trust the Lord instead of trying harder on my own?
* What battle do I need to place back into God’s hands today?

Prayer 🙏

Father, thank You that I do not have to face life’s battles alone. Forgive me for the times I rely on my own strength, wisdom, or understanding instead of seeking You first. Help me walk in Your wisdom and trust in Your power. Remind me that human help is limited, but nothing is impossible for You. Strengthen my faith, establish my heart, and teach me to depend on You in every situation. With Your help I can do mighty things, because You are my strength, my refuge, and my victory. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Journaling Reminder

Sit quietly with Jesus and listen for the Holy Spirit. Write what He places on your heart about today’s message. Is there an area where you have been depending on your own strength instead of His? Is there a battle He is asking you to surrender to Him? Continue writing until your thoughts begin to pause. Then reread what you have written and pray over it. You may begin with, “My little lamb…” or “Dear daughter…”
