Dear Sister Soldier,
Happy Valentine’s Day 💕 What a beautiful reminder that true covenant love begins with the Lord’s holy gatherings.
In Leviticus 23–24, God establishes His appointed feasts—not man’s ideas of celebration, but His calendar of redemption. Each festival (Sabbath, Passover, Firstfruits, Pentecost, Trumpets, Day of Atonement, Tabernacles) marked sacred time set apart to remember who He is and what He has done. Chapter 24 reinforces the call to continual light (the lampstand), continual provision (the bread of the Presence), and reverence for His holy Name. Together these chapters show that worship is intentional, continual, and centered on God’s holiness. Israel’s life revolved around remembering, honoring, and reflecting their covenant-keeping God.
Today, we see how these appointed times ultimately point to Jesus—our Passover Lamb, our Firstfruits, our Atonement, and our coming King.
And on a day the world celebrates romantic love, we are reminded that the greatest covenant love is the Lord’s faithful love toward His people.
The festivals were incredibly important, and yes — God absolutely set them up intentionally so His people would never forget Him.
Here’s why they mattered so much:
1. They Built a Rhythm of Remembrance
God knows how quickly we forget. The feasts weren’t random holidays — they were divine appointments. They anchored the year around His acts of redemption.
Passover → Remember deliverance.
Firstfruits → Remember provision.
Atonement → Remember cleansing.
Tabernacles → Remember dependence.
Their calendar revolved around God — not work, not culture, not personal preference.
⸻
2. They Protected Their Identity
Israel was surrounded by pagan nations with their own festivals. God gave His people holy assemblies so they would not drift into idol worship.
These feasts reminded them:
• You belong to Me.
• You were redeemed.
• You are set apart.
Without intentional remembrance, identity erodes.
⸻
3. They Taught the Next Generation
Every feast required explanation.
“Why are we eating this lamb?”
“Why are we living in booths?”
“Why is this day solemn?”
It created built-in discipleship moments. Children would ask, and parents would recount God’s faithfulness.
God was building generational memory.
⸻
4. They Pointed Forward to Jesus
Every single appointed time foreshadowed Christ:
• Passover → The Lamb
• Firstfruits → Resurrection
• Pentecost → Spirit poured out
• Atonement → Our High Priest
• Tabernacles → God dwelling with us
They weren’t just backward-looking memorials. They were prophetic.
⸻
Lesson for Me
If God intentionally built sacred rhythms into Israel’s calendar so they would never forget Him, then I must intentionally build sacred rhythms into my life so I don’t drift.
My life cannot revolve around busyness, emotions, family schedules, ministry demands, or even good Christian activity. It must revolve around remembering Him.
Just like Israel had appointed times, I need:
•Daily time in His Word.
•Intentional worship and 🙌 praise.
•Regular communion and fellowship.
•A guarded reverence for His holy Name.
•Moments to pause and recount what He has done.
If I don’t intentionally remember, I will unintentionally forget.
The world has its calendar — holidays, trends, distractions. But I want my heart aligned with God’s calendar.
Today, on a day the world celebrates love, I choose to celebrate covenant love — the faithful, redeeming, pursuing love of the Lord.
I want my life to be structured around Him, not squeezing Him into the margins.
Because when my rhythm is built around remembrance, my heart stays anchored in worship. 🙌
⸻
Prayer 🙏
Father,
Thank You for being a covenant-keeping God. Thank You for loving me with a faithful love that never shifts, never weakens, never forgets.
You established sacred rhythms for Your people so they would always remember You. Help me build those same rhythms into my life. Guard my heart from drifting. Keep my calendar aligned with Your purposes.
Teach me to pause and remember Your deliverance, Your provision, Your cleansing, and Your constant presence. Let my life revolve around You — not around busyness, distractions, or the world’s celebrations.
On this day when love is highlighted, I choose to celebrate Your steadfast love. Anchor my heart in worship. Fill my home with remembrance. Let my life proclaim that I belong to You.
In Jesus’ name,
Amen. 🙌
