Reflection

Dear sister friend,

These chapters are powerful. They show us four different responses to God’s authority — and each one teaches us something about our own hearts.

First, Balaam. A man who knew how to hear God’s voice, yet loved the rewards of men. He said the right words — “I can only say what the Lord says.” And yet, later we see his heart was divided. He wanted both God and gain.

How easy it is to speak truth publicly while negotiating compromise privately.

Then suddenly, right in the middle of this wilderness story, we see a prophecy that makes us stop:

“A star will rise from Jacob; a scepter will emerge from Israel.”

This is Jesus. Long before Bethlehem. Long before the cross. God was already declaring His King would come. Even through the mouth of a flawed prophet, God spoke of a coming Ruler.

Nothing stops God’s purposes. Not corrupt kings. Not divided prophets. Not rebellion. His plan moves forward.

Then we meet Phinehas. When sin spread through the camp and God’s holiness was being mocked, he did not shrug his shoulders. He burned with zeal for what God burned for. And God called it righteous. God made a covenant of peace with him.

Peace did not come through passivity.
Peace came through holy courage.

And finally — Moses laying hands on Joshua. Leadership transferred. Legacy continued. Moses obeyed. Joshua submitted. God’s work moved forward again.

And in the New Testament reading, 1 Corinthians 13 reminds us — all of it must be rooted in love. Not emotional love. Not soft compromise. But the kind of love that reflects God’s holiness, patience, truth, and endurance.

Sister, this reading asks us:

Will you speak only what God says — even if it costs you?
Will you recognize the King when He rises?
Will you burn for what God burns for?
Will you pass on faith faithfully?
And will you do it all in love?

Lessons to Learn
•God’s will cannot be bought or manipulated.
•Jesus was promised long before He arrived — His reign is certain.
•Holy zeal matters. Indifference invites decay.
•Leadership is stewardship — we must raise up the next generation.
•Love (1 Corinthians 13) is not weakness; it is strength anchored in truth.

Examine My Heart

Now it’s time to examine my heart.

Ask yourself:
•Do I secretly negotiate obedience when money, comfort, or approval is involved?
•Am I fully surrendered — or partially loyal like Balaam?
•Do I feel what God feels about sin — or have I grown passive?
•Am I intentionally discipling and encouraging someone behind me?
•Is my love patient and truthful — or emotional and inconsistent?

Prayer 🙏

Father,

Search me. Remove divided loyalties from my heart. I do not want to speak Your words while craving the world’s rewards. Make me wholehearted.

Let me recognize Jesus as my King — not just in words, but in surrender.
Give me holy zeal without harshness. Courage without pride. Love without compromise.

Teach me to pass on faith well. Let my life reflect truth wrapped in love.

In Jesus’ name,
Amen.

Take Away

God’s purposes cannot be stopped.
The Star has risen. The Scepter stands.
Choose wholehearted obedience — rooted in holy love.

Now, sister, sit quietly with Jesus. Listen for the Holy Spirit. Write until your thoughts pause. Reread what you wrote. You may begin with:

“My little lamb…”
or
“Dear daughter…”

Let Him speak to your heart about where you need to be fully His.
