January 10th Devotion
Today’s Reading:
Genesis 25–26 · Psalm 6 · Luke 10
⸻
Scripture Focus
“But Mary kept all these things and pondered them in her heart.” — Luke 10:39 (NLT)
“When I am afraid, I put my trust in you.” — Psalm 6:9 (NLT, theme)
⸻
Reflection
Today’s readings bring us face to face with a quiet but crucial question for spiritual growth: Where is my attention fixed?
In Genesis 25–26, we see Esau trading what is eternal for what is immediate, while Isaac learns—sometimes imperfectly—to trust God for provision and protection. In Psalm 6, David cries out honestly from a place of weakness, showing us that deep faith is not pretending strength but running to God in our need. And in Luke 10, Jesus gently corrects Martha—not for serving, but for being distracted—while Mary chooses the “one thing necessary”: sitting at His feet.
Spiritual growth does not begin with doing more for God, but with being with Him. When intimacy comes first, obedience, endurance, and discernment naturally follow.
⸻
Lesson for Me
If I want real, lasting growth, I must guard my inner life. Distraction, hurry, and self-reliance slowly dull my sensitivity to God’s voice. Like Mary, I must choose daily to sit with Jesus—listening, trusting, and letting Him shape my heart before I step into action.
⸻
Application
1.Examine my focus: What has been crowding out time at Jesus’ feet?
2.Choose intimacy first: Begin each day with listening before doing.
3.Respond in trust: When I feel overwhelmed or weak, I will run to God instead of pushing through on my own strength.
⸻
Prayer 🙏
Lord, teach me to choose what matters most. Quiet my anxious thoughts and draw my heart back to You. I want to sit at Your feet, hear Your voice, and grow in trust, humility, and obedience. Let my service flow from intimacy with You, not from pressure or distraction. Amen.
⸻
Journaling Reminder
Sit quietly and listen for the Holy Spirit to speak to your heart. Write down everything the Holy Spirit tells you—in your mind and in your heart. Keep writing until your thoughts come to a pause. Then reread what you wrote.
Begin your journal with “My little lamb…” or “Dear daughter…”
