Today’s Reading

Exodus 9–10

Scripture Focus

“But those who paid no attention to the word of the Lord left theirs out in the open.”
Exodus 9:21 (NLT)

Summary & Reflection

When God struck the livestock, He wasn’t just destroying animals.
He was breaking the foundation of Egypt’s economy, religion, and security.
It was the collapse of their false source of life.

This wasn’t random judgment—it was revelation.

“I’ve also done it so you can tell your children and grandchildren about how I made a mockery of the Egyptians and about the signs I displayed among them—and so you will know that I am the Lord.”
Exodus 10:2 (NLT)

God was not only confronting Pharaoh—He was revealing Himself to every generation that would come after.

And still… Pharaoh would not let go.

“Pharaoh’s officials now came to Pharaoh and appealed to him. ‘How long will you let this man hold us hostage? Let the men go to worship the Lord their God! Don’t you realize that Egypt lies in ruins?’”
Exodus 10:7 (NLT)

Egypt was falling apart. The land was devastated. The people were suffering.
Yet Pharaoh believed he could still hold on.

Then you will know…

One plague after another.
A nation in ruins.
A heart still unwilling to bow.

Each plague targeted a false belief and a false source of security.

And God showed:
Anything you trust more than Me can fall in a moment.

This isn’t just history.
It’s a mirror.

Pharaoh’s heart became hardened—not because God was cruel, but because Pharaoh kept choosing pride over repentance. Every warning was mercy. Every plague was an invitation to turn. But the longer he resisted, the harder his heart became.

And God had already said:

“Pharaoh will not listen to you, but then I will do even more mighty miracles in the land of Egypt.”
Exodus 11:9 (NLT)

God was never surprised by Pharaoh’s refusal. This was not a failure of God’s plan—it was part of His purpose. Pharaoh’s resistance became the stage where God revealed His power, holiness, and authority.

Lesson for Me

God’s Word is not a suggestion—it is life, protection, and truth.

Those who paid no attention to what God said suffered loss—not because God was cruel, but because they ignored the warning.

Every time God spoke, what He said happened.

This shows me that obedience is not about rules—it is about trust.
To ignore His voice is to place myself in danger.
To listen and respond is to walk under His covering.

God always speaks before He acts.
His warnings are mercy.
His commands are protection.

So the question is not, “Is God going to do what He said?”
The question is, “Will I pay attention?”

Because those who listen are preserved, and those who don’t suffer loss.

And we are only in January. We still have a whole year to walk through God’s love story to us—His promises, His warnings, His truth. Let’s pay attention, highlight what He shows us, and choose to obey His Word.

When we trust Him to do it His way, not ours, He protects us from being deceived by our own flesh. Scripture reminds us that “the heart is deceitful and wicked above all things—who can know it? God alone.”

So this year, we have a fresh start—a new commitment to follow the Lord and live His way, not ours.
