📖 Today’s Reading: Isaiah 11–14 • Hebrews 9
📌 Scripture Focus:
“The Lord of Heaven’s Armies has sworn this oath: ‘It will all happen as I have planned. It will be as I have decided.’ ... The Lord of Heaven’s Armies has spoken—who can change his plans? When his hand is raised, who can stop him?”
— Isaiah 14:24, 27 (NLT)
“In that day you will sing: ‘I will praise you, O Lord! You were angry with me, but not anymore. Now you comfort me... With joy you will drink deeply from the fountain of salvation!’”
— Isaiah 12:1–6 (NLT)
✨ Observation
Isaiah 11:1–5 paints a prophetic picture of Jesus—the Righteous Branch—full of wisdom, understanding, counsel, might, knowledge, and the fear of the Lord. Everything about Him reflects God’s righteousness, holiness, and justice.
The phrase “In that day…” echoes throughout these chapters. Why? Because God writes history before it happens. He gives promises—some joyful, others sobering—as declarations of His sovereignty.
- He promised to bring down proud Babylon (a symbol of rebellion and worldly strength).
- He promised to crush the Assyrian (a symbol of oppression and evil).
- And He did. Because who can stop the hand of the Lord? No one.
So why do we worry? Why do we fear?
When God gives us a promise, we should mark it, remember it, highlight it, and cling to it. He has already fulfilled the greatest promise—He saved us! Our response should be worship: singing with joy, drinking deeply from the fountain of salvation.
💡 Lesson for Me
I can trust that God is sovereign over every day of my life.
He is in control. He loves me.
Because Jesus conquered sin and death, I can walk through every storm with peace.
And one day—I will be with Him.
🔍 What About Me?
1. Does my life reflect the joy and singing of a person who knows they’re saved?
2. Or am I constantly weighed down by consequences, trials, and heartache?
3. Do I really believe that God is sovereign and working all things for good in my life?
4. Am I standing on His promises? What promise has He given me lately to hold on to?
5. What heartache or impossible situation do I need to hand over to Him, asking for His peace and His word?
6. How can I encourage someone else today—letting the joy of the Lord be my strength?
🙏 Prayer
Lord, “In that day…” You declare, because You are the Creator of days. You alone are God—no one can stand against You, and no idol can compare to You. All other things we trust in are powerless.
But You love us with an everlasting love. You see our weakness. You remember that we are dust. And yet, You saved us.
Help me stand on Your promises today. Let my confidence rest in Your love and Your unshakable Word. You have never failed—not once—and You never will.
Fill me with faith. Fill me with joy. Let my life be a song of praise today.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
🔎 Isaiah 11:1–5 — A Clear Prophecy of Jesus
"Out of the stump of David’s family will grow a shoot—yes, a new Branch bearing fruit from the old root..."
This is a messianic prophecy—“the Branch” refers to Jesus, who came from the royal line of David. Though Israel was like a chopped-down tree due to judgment, Jesus is the new life—
the hope that springs from what seemed dead.
Each characteristic listed in verse 2 points directly to the Holy Spirit
resting on Jesus:
- Wisdom and understanding — shown in His teachings
- Counsel and might — seen in His authority and miracles
- Knowledge and fear of the Lord — reflected in His perfect obedience and reverence for the Father
pointing to both His first coming in humility and His future return in power.
🎶 Isaiah 12:1–6 —
A Song of Salvation Through Jesus
This chapter reads like a song that believers will sing after experiencing God’s salvation.
“See, God has come to save me. I will trust in Him and not be afraid...”
This echoes the truth that salvation is not found in works, but in a person—Jesus. He came to save, comfort, and give us eternal victory.
“With joy you will drink deeply from the fountain of salvation.”
Jesus later calls Himself Living Water (John 4:10–14). This ties directly into the image here in Isaiah—Jesus quenches our spiritual thirst forever.
✅ Summary:
Isaiah 11 and 12 are deeply prophetic:
- Isaiah 11 looks ahead to Jesus’ character, His anointing, His righteous rule, and His peace-bringing kingdom.
- Isaiah 12 is the joyful response of those who’ve experienced that salvation—us, the redeemed in Christ.
- Jesus was foretold centuries in advance.
- He is the fulfillment of every promise.
- He is the One we can trust, sing about, and rejoice in.
