📖 Today’s Reading: Isaiah 19–21

📌 Scripture Focus:

“He should look for chariots drawn by pairs of horses, and for riders on donkeys and camels. Let the watchman be fully alert.” Then the watchman called out, “Day after day I have stood on the watchtower, my Lord. Night after night I have remained at my post.”
— Isaiah 21:7–8 (NLT)

✨ Devotional: Remain at Your Post—The Call of a Watchman

Throughout Isaiah, we see the phrase “in that day” repeated again and again. It signals something important—whether a day of judgment, a day of deliverance, or the glorious day of the Lord. These prophetic moments aren’t just tied to past events or future fulfillment. They carry present-day lessons, especially for those God has called to be watchmen.

In today’s passage, Isaiah describes a watchman on the wall—alert, vigilant, and faithful. He stands day after day, night after night, reporting what he sees. He doesn’t abandon his post. He doesn’t fall asleep. He waits and watches, even when nothing seems to be happening.

This echoes the words of Jesus in Matthew 25 when He told the parable of the ten virgins—five wise, five foolish. The wise stayed ready, with oil in their lamps, watching for the Bridegroom’s return. The foolish grew lazy and were unprepared when He arrived.

Just like the watchman and the wise virgins, we are called to stay spiritually awake in a world that is often drowsy with distraction, fear, or pride.

📖 Are We Watchmen Today?

Yes. In a spiritual sense, we are.

God still appoints watchmen—those who pray, who speak His truth, who intercede, who warn in love, and who stay faithful at their post. The world may grow dark, but the watchman doesn’t leave his station.

A watchman today:
•Watches in prayer
•Warns with the Word
•Encourages others to be faithful
•Discerns the times
•Stands firm, even in silence

Isaiah 21:8 says, “Day after day… night after night I have remained at my post.” That’s the posture of faithfulness. Of readiness. Of spiritual courage.

🧠 Lesson for Me

God is still speaking—“in that day” could be today. His promises are still true. His judgment is still coming. His return is still near. Am I like the faithful watchman or one who has abandoned the post?

Like the wise virgins, am I keeping my lamp filled with the oil of the Spirit, or am I living as if the Bridegroom’s delay means He’s not coming?

❓What About Me?
•Am I alert, or am I spiritually asleep?
•Am I speaking God’s truth in love to others, or staying silent out of fear?
•Am I consistent in prayer, or easily distracted?
•Have I abandoned my post—or am I standing where God placed me?
•Is there someone in my life I’m meant to watch for, intercede for, or lovingly warn?

🙏 Prayer

Lord, help me remain at my post. Teach me to be a watchman in this generation—faithful, alert, and anchored in Your truth. Keep my heart from growing cold or weary. Fill me with the oil of Your Spirit so I can shine brightly in dark times. May I be found ready when You return, not asleep or distracted, but awake and watching with joy. Use me to warn the wandering, strengthen the weak, and remind others of what You have spoken. You are worth my faithfulness—day after day, night after night. In Jesus’ name, amen.
