Today’s Reading: Isaiah 1–3 and Titus
📌 Scripture Focus:
“Even an ox knows its owner, and a donkey recognizes its master’s care—
but Israel doesn’t know its master. My people don’t recognize my care for them.”
— Isaiah 1:3 NLT
“Learn to do good. Seek justice. Help the oppressed. Defend the cause of orphans.
Fight for the rights of widows. “Come now, let’s settle this,” says the Lord.
“Though your sins are like scarlet, I will make them as white as snow.
Though they are red like crimson, I will make them as white as wool.
If you will only obey me, you will have plenty to eat.”
— Isaiah 1:17–19 NLT
“Zion will be restored by justice; those who repent will be revived by righteousness.
But rebels and sinners will be completely destroyed, and those who desert the Lord will be consumed.”
— Isaiah 1:27–28 NLT
📝 Devotional:
Reading through the first three chapters of Isaiah, I’m struck by the heavy grief of a holy God who has patiently loved His people—yet they kept turning away. Isaiah saw a vision of tribulation and judgment, but it wasn’t because God had abandoned them—it was because they had abandoned Him. They rejected His care, turned to false gods, and lived however they pleased.
Their rebellion was personal. The Lord cries out, “Even an ox knows its owner,” but “My people don’t recognize My care.” That phrase gripped me. It’s one thing to forget instructions… it’s another to ignore the very One who tenderly loves you.
Israel had compromised over and over:
- They pursued idols instead of the Lord.
- They allowed injustice to thrive.
- They were religious outwardly but corrupt inwardly.
- They hardened their hearts to correction.
But praise God, there is also a way back.
The Lord tells us how to avoid this same path:
1. Recognize His care. Never take for granted the daily mercies and provision of God. He’s been faithful.
2. Obey. Obedience isn’t just about rules—it’s a sign of love and trust.
3. Do what pleases God. Seek justice. Care for the hurting. Defend the vulnerable.
This is the fruit of walking with Him.
And right in the middle of Isaiah 1, there is this beautiful invitation:
“Come now, let’s settle this… Though your sins are like scarlet, I will make them as white as snow.” (Isaiah 1:18)
Our God is so merciful. He doesn’t just expose sin—He invites us into restoration.
Then in Titus, we’re reminded of what a life transformed by grace looks like—
devoted to good works, walking in purity, sound in doctrine, waiting for our Blessed Hope. It’s a message that mirrors Isaiah: repent, return, live righteously.
🪞 Lesson for Me:
- God’s love is tender and consistent—I must not ignore it.
- Obedience keeps me close to His heart.
- Compromise may seem small at first, but it leads to destruction.
- Restoration is available when I return to Him.
📚 New Testament Tie-In: Titus 2:11–14 NLT
“For the grace of God has been revealed, bringing salvation to all people.
And we are instructed to turn from godless living and sinful pleasures.
We should live in this evil world with wisdom, righteousness, and devotion to God…”
💭 Application Questions:
- Am I truly recognizing and responding to God’s care in my life—or am I taking His love for granted?
- Have I allowed any compromise to slip into my heart or habits?
- What does justice look like in my life today? Who can I speak up for or care for?
- What step of obedience is the Lord calling me to take right now?
- Am I more devoted to God—or to worldly pursuits? What does my time, energy, and focus reveal?
- Do I trust God to handle and take care of the trials and heartbreaks in my life—or am I trying to carry them alone?
- Am I letting grace train me to say "no" to ungodliness and live a self-controlled, upright, and godly life as Titus 2 teaches?
- Is my life a reflection of Jesus’ return being my Blessed Hope—or am I distracted by lesser things?
- Am I bearing fruit in good works and sound doctrine—or have I become passive in my faith?
- What would it look like to “live wisely and be pure” (Titus 2:5) in my season of life right now?
🙏 Prayer:
Lord, I confess that it’s easy to get into routine, to go through the motions, or even to chase after things that don’t last. But I want to be devoted to You—not the world. Open my eyes to truly see Your care for me. Help me recognize the ways I’ve compromised or become distracted. Teach me to trust You with the heartbreaks and trials I face.
Transform my heart, Lord. Train me by Your grace to say “no” to ungodliness and “yes” to a life of purity, justice, and love. Show me how to live wisely and uprightly as I wait for You, my Blessed Hope. Make my life a testimony of Your mercy and righteousness. Don’t let me stop short of all You’ve called me to be—revive me by Your righteousness. In Jesus’ name, amen.
