Today’s Reading: Hosea 6–9; Hebrews 3

Scripture Focus:
“Come, let us return to the Lord. He has torn us to pieces; now he will heal us.
He has injured us; now he will bandage our wounds.
In just a short time he will restore us, so that we may live in his presence.
Oh, that we might know the Lord! Let us press on to know him.
He will respond to us as surely as the arrival of dawn or the coming of rains in early spring.”
“O Israel and Judah, what should I do with you?” asks the Lord.
“For your love vanishes like the morning mist and disappears like dew in the sunlight.
I want you to show love, not offer sacrifices.
I want you to know me more than I want burnt offerings.
But like Adam, you broke my covenant and betrayed my trust.”
— Hosea 6:1–4, 6–7 NLT

Reflection:
It’s hard to believe Israel didn’t recognize that the heartache, destruction, and chaos in their lives were consequences of their own choices. They had turned from the Lord, trusted in false gods, and given their hearts to worldly pleasures. They refused to listen to His Word. Time after time, God warned them—through prophets, famine, locusts, and hardship—but their hearts remained divided.
Still, God pursued them.
Why? Because His desire wasn’t just obedience—it was relationship. He longed for their hearts to turn back to Him—not with momentary tears or religious performance, but with steadfast love and a desire to truly know Him.
If you've ever been deeply hurt by someone you love—neglected, rejected, taken for granted—you’ve felt just a fraction of what God feels when we give our hearts to everything but Him. He doesn't want shallow rituals or empty promises. He wants love. Real love. Lasting love.
In Hosea, we see the heartbreak of God. But we also see His mercy. “Come, let us return to the Lord… He will heal us… He will bandage our wounds… He will restore us… Let us press on to know Him.” What a faithful God! Even when we stray, He calls us back. But we must respond—not with lip service, but with loyal love and humble repentance.
God was no longer accepting surface-level religion from Israel, and He won’t accept it from us either. The time had come to return—or face the consequences of rebellion. Exile was ahead, and though they would cry out, their cries would not delay judgment.
So what do we learn?
For me, I know I want to live in a loving, faithful relationship with God. I want to examine where I’ve allowed distraction, exhaustion, or misplaced trust to take His rightful place in my heart. Sometimes I wake up overwhelmed, too tired to do all that’s ahead—but I’ve seen that when I cry out, “Help me, Lord,” He meets me. He strengthens me.
There are so many things we can trust in instead of God—our money, our work, our routines, our own strength. But those things can vanish like the morning mist. Only God remains. And only He can restore, heal, and lead us to live in His presence.
Let’s press on to know Him.

Lesson for Me:
God desires my love and trust more than my religious actions. He calls me into real relationship—a life of obedience that flows from knowing Him. He disciplines not to destroy, but to heal, restore, and draw me close. I must examine where my heart has drifted and return fully.
Application Questions:
  1. Where am I putting my trust today—truly? Is it in God, or in something or someone else?
  2. Do I treat my relationship with God as a living one, or is it routine and shallow?
  3. How does my love for the Lord show up in my daily obedience?
  4. What are some false comforts or idols I may need to let go of to belong fully to Him?
  5. What does it look like for me to “press on to know Him” this week?

Prayer:
Father,
You are so faithful. Even when I stray, You call me back. Forgive me for the times I’ve loved You with fleeting devotion—for when I’ve trusted in my own strength, in people, or in temporary things instead of You. I want to know You more, Lord—not just know about You, but truly walk with You in deep love and obedience. Strengthen me when I feel tired. Redirect me when I wander. Help me to press on to know You, to trust You, and to live for You wholeheartedly. I give You my whole heart today.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
