Observation

As I read these chapters, I am struck by how often Solomon points back to God’s faithfulness. He does not take credit for becoming king, building the Temple, or seeing God’s glory fill it. Instead, he repeatedly reminds the people that God fulfilled every promise He made.

Solomon begins his prayer by acknowledging who God is—His greatness, His covenant faithfulness, and His unfailing love. Then, based on God’s proven character, he confidently brings his requests before Him.

What stands out to me is that Solomon expected God to hear. He expected God to respond. He expected God to keep doing what God had always done.

Then in chapter 7, God answered. Fire came down from heaven. The glory of the Lord filled the Temple. The people saw God’s response and immediately fell on their faces in worship, declaring:

“He is good! His faithful love endures forever!”

It makes me ask myself: Do I pray with that same expectation? Do my prayers reflect what I truly believe about God?

Lesson for Me

My prayers should be rooted in who God is, not merely in what I need.
Like Solomon, I need to remind myself of God’s faithfulness before presenting my requests. When I remember His promises, His past provision, His mercy, and His power, faith rises in my heart.
God is not distant or indifferent. He hears. He sees. He responds according to His perfect wisdom and timing.
If I truly believe that God keeps His promises, then my prayers should reflect confidence, expectation, surrender, and worship.
Just as the Temple was built so the nations would know the Lord, my life as His temple should reveal His faithfulness to those around me.

How Will I Apply What I’ve Learned?

* I will begin my prayers by acknowledging who God is before focusing on my requests.
* I will remember the ways God has already proven Himself faithful in my life.
* I will pray with expectation, believing that God hears and responds.
* I will trust God’s timing, even when His answers do not come immediately.
* I will worship Him before I see the answer because His character is worthy of praise regardless of the outcome.
* I will live as His temple, allowing others to see His faithfulness through my life.

My Prayer 🙏

Father,

You are the covenant-keeping God. Not one promise You have ever made has failed. You are faithful, merciful, patient, and full of unfailing love.
Just as Solomon looked back and saw Your promises fulfilled, help me remember all the ways You have been faithful to me. Forgive me for the times I pray with doubt instead of faith, or worry instead of trust.
Teach me to begin my prayers by fixing my eyes on who You are. Let my requests flow from confidence in Your character and not from fear of my circumstances.
Lord, open my eyes to see Your hand at work around me. Help me to believe that You hear every prayer and that You are actively working according to Your perfect will.
May my life, as a temple of the Holy Spirit, bring You glory. Let others see Your faithfulness, goodness, and love through me.
Like the people who saw Your glory fill the Temple, may my response always be worship:
“You are good, and Your faithful love endures forever.”

In Jesus’ name, Amen. 🙏
