Oct.2nd

📅 October 2
Today’s Reading: Zechariah 13–14; Psalm 147; Luke 21

Scripture Focus:

“On that day a fountain will be opened for the dynasty of David and for the people of Jerusalem, a fountain to cleanse them from all their sins and impurity.”
— Zechariah 13:1 (NLT)

🪔 Reflection

As I read Zechariah 13 and 14, I see that these chapters can feel a bit hard to grasp because of the visions and the prophecy, but the main point is clear: God Himself is the One who cleanses His people, fights for them, and will one day reign as King over all the earth.
Chapter 13 points to the fountain opened to cleanse us from sin through Jesus, the Shepherd who was struck, and shows how God refines a remnant to trust Him.
Chapter 14 looks ahead to the Day of the Lord when God steps in to save His people, judge the nations, and rule the whole world in holiness and peace.

Prophecy is never given just to inform our minds about timelines;
it is given to reveal who God is.
When we see His nature in these chapters, we can:
•Worship Him for His holiness and mercy.
•Trust Him for His sovereign rule over history.
•Call on His name in the same spirit the remnant does (13:9).
•Hope in His promises for the future.

✨ Attributes of God to Focus On

Here are the main ones Zechariah 13–14 show about God — worth memorizing and praising:

1.   Holy & Pure – He opens a fountain to cleanse His people (13:1).

2. Jealous for True Worship – He removes idols and false prophets (13:2).

3. Merciful Redeemer – He provides the Shepherd who is struck for His flock (13:7).

4. Refiner of Hearts – He purifies a remnant to call on His name (13:9).

5. Faithful Covenant-Keeper – “They will say, ‘The Lord is our God’ … ‘I will say, ‘They are my people’” (13:9).

6. Righteous Judge of Nations – He gathers and strikes those who oppose Him (14:2-3, 12-15).

7. Divine Warrior & Protector – He fights for His people (14:3).

8 .Sovereign over Creation – He commands day and night, waters and mountains (14:4-8).

9. Universal King – “The Lord will be king over the whole earth” (14:9).

10. Peace-Giver & Restorer – He delivers His people and brings peace and blessing (14:11, 16).

11. Holy & Sanctifying – Holiness will mark even the ordinary things (14:20-21).

🌟 We also see these same qualities of God celebrated in Psalm 147 — another rich source for memorizing and praising His character:

1.  Restorer & Healer – He builds up Jerusalem and heals the brokenhearted (147:2-3).

2.  All-Knowing & All-Powerful – He numbers the stars and calls them by name (147:4-5).

3.  Upholder of the Humble & Judge of the Wicked – He lifts up the humble, casts the wicked down (147:6).

4.  Faithful Provider – He gives rain, makes grass grow, feeds the animals and even the ravens (147:8-9).

5.  Delighting in His People’s Trust – He takes no pleasure in human strength but in those who fear Him and       hope in His unfailing love (147:10-11).

6.  Protector & Peace-Giver – He strengthens the gates of His people and blesses them with peace (147:13-14).

7.  Sovereign over Nature & His Word – He commands snow, frost, wind, and reveals His statutes to His people  (147:15-20).

🙌 Why This Builds Trust
•If He is Holy, He is worthy of our worship.
•If He is Sovereign and King, we can rest even when nations rage.
•If He is Merciful and Cleansing, we can draw near to Him with confidence.
•If He is the Refiner, even our trials have purpose.
•If He is the Deliverer and Peace-Giver, the future is secure.

💡 Practical Way Forward
•Use these attributes as praise prompts in prayer or worship.
•Memorize one or two attributes at a time with their verses.
•When you pray, call on Him by those names, for example:

“Lord, You are my Refiner — purify my heart.”

“You are King over all the earth — I trust Your rule.”

“You are my Peace-Giver — quiet my anxious thoughts.”

“You are my Protector — I am safe in Your hands.”

“You are the Fountain that cleanses — wash me and renew me.”

“You are the Faithful Covenant-Keeper — I rest in Your promises.”

“You are the Holy One — set my life apart for Your glory.”

“You are the Healer of the brokenhearted — comfort and restore me.”

“You are the Provider — You give what I truly need each day.”

“You are the Almighty Creator — You rule the stars and my circumstances.”

🕊 Closing Thought & Prayer Invitation

All that we read in Zechariah 13–14 and Psalm 147 is not just history or future prophecy; it is a living revelation of who our God is right now. The same God who opened a fountain to cleanse, who numbers the stars, who fights for His people, and who will reign as King over all the earth is the One we can worship and trust today.

Let your heart linger on these attributes.
Speak them back to Him in praise.
Trust His rule in your own circumstances.
Rest in His cleansing and His care.
Then sit quietly before Him and
let His Spirit impress on your heart how He wants you to respond —
what to surrender,
what to trust,
what to rejoice in.

“Those who know Your name will put their trust in You.” (Psalm 9:10)
