Today’s Reading
Ezekiel 45–46; Luke 1

Scripture Focus

“When you divide the land among the tribes of Israel, you must set aside a section for the Lord as his holy portion. This piece of land will be 8 1/3 miles long and 6 2/3 miles wide. The entire area will be holy.”
—Ezekiel 45:1 NLT

“This area will be holy, set aside for the priests who minister to the Lord in the sanctuary. They will use it for their homes, and my Temple will be located within it.”
—Ezekiel 45:4 NLT

Reflection

Chapters 45–46 are a continuation of what the Lord has been revealing to Ezekiel in a vision in the 25th year of captivity, fourteen years after the fall of Jerusalem. From chapters 40 to 47, God gave Ezekiel all the instructions the people would need for when they were to return to the land.

Captivity was not the end of them…

But what was God concerned with?

That’s what shines through in Ezekiel 45–46:
•God cares about details — the measurements, the weights, the specific offerings. Not because He’s picky for the sake of being picky, but because details reveal what’s in the heart. Careless worship shows a careless heart. Careful worship shows reverence.
•Holiness — the whole setup is about separation: holy land, holy offerings, holy clothes, holy conduct. It’s God saying, “If I dwell with you, you can’t live like the nations around you. You must be different—set apart for Me.”
•Loving right — the justice piece in 45:9–12 is striking. God doesn’t just care about temple rituals; He cares about rulers not oppressing people, about fair weights and measures, about daily honesty. Holiness isn’t just vertical (toward Him); it’s horizontal (toward people).

It’s like God is saying: “If My glory fills this temple, then your worship must be pure, your hearts must be just, and your love must be right.”

And that’s the call for us too: to live holy lives for God, set apart in every detail, every choice, every act of love. The same God who gave Israel these instructions is faithful to us—He will not abandon His people. Even in seasons of waiting or discipline, He is working all things out for our good, so that His glory may dwell in us and flow out to the world.

That has been God’s intention all along — that His presence in His people would not stay hidden, but would shine so that the nations would know Him.

Matthew 5:16 – “Let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.”
➡ Jesus reminds us that holiness isn’t private — when we live set apart for Him, the world sees and God is glorified.

Isaiah 49:6 – “I will also make you a light for the Gentiles, that my salvation may reach to the ends of the earth.”
➡ God’s plan has always been global: His glory shining through His people so that salvation spreads to every nation.

Lesson for Me

God calls me to holiness in the details of my life, to love rightly in my relationships, and to let His glory shine through me. His faithfulness assures me that as I walk with Him, He is working all things for my good and for His glory to reach the world.

Application Questions
1.Where in my life might I be careless with the “details” that reflect reverence for God?
2.What does holiness look like for me today in how I set myself apart for Him?
3.How am I loving others in a way that reflects God’s justice and mercy?
4.What practical way can I “let my light shine” so God’s glory flows out to the world around me?

Prayer 🙏

Lord, thank You that Your glory has not abandoned me, but You dwell with me through Your Spirit. Teach me to live carefully, not casually — holy in the details, honest in my dealings, loving in my relationships. Help me to shine with Your presence, so that those around me may see You and glorify Your name. May my life be part of Your great plan to bring salvation to the ends of the earth.

Journaling Reminder 📝

Sit quietly before the Lord. Ask Him: “Lord, how do You want Your glory to flow through me today? Where do You want me to shine Your light?” Write down what He speaks to your heart — whether it’s a change to make, a person to love, or a step of obedience to take.
