Today’s Reading: Daniel 11–12; Luke 6
Scripture Focus
“Now then, I will reveal the truth to you. Three more Persian kings will reign, to be succeeded by a fourth, far richer than the others. He will use his wealth to stir up everyone to fight against the kingdom of Greece.”
—Daniel 11:2 (NLT)
Reflection
What God is talking about here is the rise and fall of kingdoms. Daniel was shown the sweeping course of world history—Persian kings, Alexander the Great, and the division of his empire among four generals.
That means Daniel wrote these things down 300–400 years before they unfolded in exact historical detail—so precise that some critics accuse the book of being written later. But believers hold firmly that this was true prophecy given to Daniel centuries ahead. God was not guessing. He was showing that He alone rules over history.
🙏 Why Did God Reveal This?
- To strengthen His people’s faith – Israel was about to face centuries of war, oppression, and persecution. God wanted them to know He already had history in His hands.
- To show His sovereignty over nations – kingdoms rise and fall, but God’s kingdom stands forever (Daniel 2:44; 7:27).
- To prepare for the coming of Christ – all history was moving toward the arrival of the Messiah, so God’s people could trace His hand in world events.
- To warn about the Antichrist – Antiochus IV Epiphanes was a preview of the final enemy, reminding us to stay faithful even when persecution comes.
- God’s Word is trustworthy — if He fulfilled past prophecies in detail, we can trust Him with the promises still ahead.
- God rules over the rise and fall of leaders and nations — no ruler is beyond His control.
- God cares for His people in times of trial — He warns, equips, and strengthens us to endure.
- God points us to Jesus — the One in whom all history finds its meaning and hope.
God holds the future with as much certainty as He holds the past. When life feels uncertain, I can rest knowing He already knows every detail and has a purpose for His people.
Application Questions
- How does fulfilled prophecy strengthen my faith in God’s promises that are yet to come?
- In what areas of my life do I need to remember that God is sovereign and in control?
- Am I living as though His kingdom is the only one that will last?
Lord, You are the God of history. You reveal truth long before it unfolds, proving that You alone are sovereign. Strengthen my faith to trust You when the world seems unstable. Help me remember that kingdoms rise and fall, but Your kingdom will stand forever. Keep me faithful until the day of Christ’s return. Amen.
Takeaway
💡 God gave Daniel the vision centuries in advance to prove His Word is true, to strengthen His people during trials, to remind us He alone directs history, and to show us that His kingdom is the only one that lasts.
✍️ Journaling Reminder: Sit quietly before the Lord. Ask Him to show you how this truth—that He rules over history—applies to your life today. Write down what He speaks to your heart.
